A consistency rule caps how much of your total profit can come from your best day. If your best day is $1,200 and the rule is 40%, your total profit has to be at least $3,000, because $1,200 is 40% of $3,000. Hit the profit target with one big day and the rule quietly raises the target. Of the 18 firms we track, 15 apply one to at least one evaluation and 15 apply one somewhere in the funded stage.
The math, with numbers
Take a hypothetical 50K evaluation with a $3,000 profit target. The table shows the total profit each rule requires for two different best days.
Worked example
| Rule | Best day $1,200 | Best day $1,800 |
|---|---|---|
| 50% | $1,200 ÷ 50% = $2,400 (the $3,000 target still applies) | $1,800 ÷ 50% = $3,600 |
| 40% | $1,200 ÷ 40% = $3,000 | $1,800 ÷ 40% = $4,500 |
| 30% | $1,200 ÷ 30% = $4,000 | $1,800 ÷ 30% = $6,000 |
| 20% | $1,200 ÷ 20% = $6,000 | $1,800 ÷ 20% = $9,000 |
At 40%, a $1,200 best day lines up exactly with the $3,000 target. Make it $1,800 and you need $4,500, or $1,500 more than the target says.
One big day, four ways
Now say you make $300 a day for 4 days, then have a $1,800 day that takes you to exactly $3,000. With no consistency rule, you've passed. Here is what each rule still asks for.
Worked example
| Rule | Total needed | You have | Still to make |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50% | $3,600 | $3,000 | $600 |
| 40% | $4,500 | $3,000 | $1,500 |
| 30% | $6,000 | $3,000 | $3,000 |
| 20% | $9,000 | $3,000 | $6,000 |
Every one of those remaining dollars has to come from days smaller than $1,800. Beat it and that day becomes the new best day, and the target moves again.
Some firms write the rule as a share of the profit target instead of total profit. Topstep's best day must stay below 55% of the target, which is $1,650 on a $3,000 target. Exceed it and the target becomes your best day divided by 0.55: a $2,200 day makes it $4,000. The arithmetic ends up the same.
A best-day rule also sets a minimum number of winning days, because no single day can carry more than its share. At 50%, at least 2 winning days; at 40%, at least 3 winning days; at 30%, at least 4 winning days; at 20%, at least 5 winning days. That's why Lucid Trading says its 50% LucidFlex rule makes a two-day pass possible, and why a tighter rule quietly works as a minimum-days requirement even where the firm doesn't publish one.
Wording at the line matters too. Earn2Trade says no day may be 30% or more of total profit, so a day at exactly 30% breaks it. Lucid Trading's LucidFlex allows 50% or less, so exactly 50% passes.
Three things a consistency rule can do
Raise the target
This is the evaluation version. You don't fail; you just keep trading until your total is big enough. The rule's own wording says so at 5 firms. Topstep and Take Profit Trader say the account is not failed, TradeDay and Funded Futures Network say exceeding it raises the target, and at FundedNext Futures the target rises on Flex. The cost is time and, on a monthly subscription, money: every extra day is another day of fees and another day of drawdown risk.
Hold your payout
This is the funded version: 15 of 18 firms apply a best-day rule somewhere on the way to a payout. Break it and nothing fails, but you can't withdraw until your other days bring the ratio back in line. The details vary in ways that matter:
- Per cycle or forever. Topstep's Consistency payout path resets after each payout. On Funded Futures Network's Standard MAX, the profit tally resets but your best day never does, so one huge day follows you into every later cycle. Bulenox's Master Account measures on cumulative P&L that doesn't reset between payouts. The FundedNext Futures FNL:003 account uses a "perpetual" rule: your best-ever day against the current cycle's profit.
- Tighter without an evaluation. Straight-to-funded and instant accounts at Tradeify, Lucid Trading, Alpha Futures, Bulenox, FundedNext Futures, Top One Futures, and DayTraders.com use a 20% rule on at least one payout, which means a $1,200 day needs $6,000 of profit in that cycle.
- A floor, not a ceiling. Elite Trader Funding adds the reverse: each day that counts toward a payout must be at least 23% of your best one. Small green days don't count.
- A time window. Phidias Propfirm measures its 30% rule over at least 4 trading days, and says the fix is to trade more, not a failure.
End the account
None of the best-day rules in our data is written as an account-ending breach. Behavior policies are a separate matter: at MyFundedFutures, the Pro funded account has no hard percentage rule, but a Consistent Trading Policy monitors things like maxing out contracts on every trade. Each firm page links the firm's own consistency article; read it before you size up.
Consistency rules, firm by firm
The middle column is each program's rule as the firm states it, evaluation and funded where the firm splits them. The right column is what the firm's payout requirements say about best days or consistency. Hard numbers for every size are on each firm page and in the programs table; you can also put two firms side by side in compare.

Planning around a big day
- Know your number before the open. Best day ÷ percentage, compared with the target. That's the real finish line.
- Size the remaining days under your best day. Each of them has to stay smaller than the best day or the finish line moves again.
- Don't try to finish in one session. Chasing the gap with size is how a consistency problem becomes a drawdown problem. See how your drawdown floor moves.
- Pick the rule that fits how you trade. If your edge comes in bursts, a program with no evaluation rule or a looser one suits you better. Tradeify sells an optional 50% consistency add-on on its Select evaluation, and MyFundedFutures offers a limited-time One-Day add-on on the 50K Pro: a $4,000 target and no consistency rule.
Tracking the ratio by hand across several accounts gets old fast. CrossTrade's trade journal (from our publisher) has a Prop Eval Tracker that shows a consistency pass or fail next to your profit target, drawdown, and daily loss. Enter your firm's exact numbers: it checks the rules you give it, not the firm's live system. It works with NinjaTrader 8 and Tradovate accounts, so it can't see accounts at Topstep, Alpha Futures, and DayTraders.com; elsewhere, check that your firm allows third-party tools on the account.
Consistency is one of several conditions between you and a withdrawal. For the rest (buffers, winning days, and caps), see how prop firm payouts work, and how a futures prop firm evaluation works for the full path from signup to payout.
