No futures prop firm we track allows automated trading without conditions. Of the 18 firms, 9 allow it with conditions, 7 prohibit it, and 2 don't state a clear policy. The conditions decide more than the verdict: whose strategy it is, how fast it trades, which stage the account is in, and where the orders come from.

The short version. Run your own strategy, not a bought or shared one. Stay well clear of high-frequency thresholds. Check whether the rule changes between evaluation and funded, and whether the firm allows a VPS before you put a bot on one.

Automation rules, firm by firm

Where each firm stands

Allowed, with conditions (9)

  • Topstep: Allowed in the Trading Combine and XFA at the trader's own risk (no support, no exceptions for errant trades), including custom bots through the TopstepX/ProjectX API.
  • MyFundedFutures: Automated strategies are allowed on evaluation and funded accounts if they are tailored to the trader's own settings and do not aim to exploit favorable simulated fills.
  • Tradeify: Bots and algorithms are allowed if the trader is the sole owner (Tradeify may ask for proof, such as a live video of enabling the code on your own PC), the bot is not shared with other traders, it is not used at other prop firms, and it is not high-frequency.
  • Lucid Trading: Automated systems are allowed in all phases as long as they follow Lucid rules; the trader bears responsibility for software errors.
  • Bulenox: Bots and algorithms are permitted, but only user-built tools for the account owner's personal use.
  • TradeDay: Self-built automated systems are allowed only through supported platforms (NinjaTrader, Tradovate, TradingView, Jigsaw, Quantower); TradeDay gives no API access.
  • FundedNext Futures: EAs and trading bots are allowed in both the challenge and FundedNext Accounts, with no setup support.
  • Funded Futures Network: Automated strategies (EAs, algorithms) are allowed at FFN's discretion if they run the account holder's own strategy on their own accounts.
  • FTMO Futures: Automated and algorithmic trading is allowed, including NinjaScript strategies.

Not allowed (7)

  • Apex Trader Funding: Apex's Prohibited Activities page bans automation and algorithms, stating rewards are for human traders, and separately bans HFT and exploiting the simulated environment.
  • Take Profit Trader: Universal Trading Policy #1 applies to Test, PRO and PRO+: no automated systems, bots or algorithmic execution.
  • Alpha Futures: Bots, AI and fully automated or hands-off trading are banned on all account types, evaluation and Qualified.
  • Elite Trader Funding: AI, bots, EAs, algorithmic and other automated trading are banned unless ETF authorizes them in writing, in evaluation and funded alike.
  • Top One Futures: Expert advisors, bots, scripts, automated trading systems and high-frequency execution tools are banned on every program and stage, and the firm makes no exception for semi-automated or alert-driven order entry.
  • Funded Futures Family: Bots and algorithmic trading are prohibited on evaluation and funded accounts.
  • Phidias Propfirm: Robots and fully automated algorithms, plus HFT, are banned; semi-automated software is allowed only if the trader actively monitors and manually adjusts every trade.

Unclear or not stated (2)

  • Earn2Trade: No help-center article addresses automated strategies directly. The prohibited-conduct article and Terms ban software, AI or ultra-fast data entry that could manipulate the trading environment or give an unfair advantage, and trading by anyone other than the account holder. Whether a trader's own NinjaTrader or TradingView strategy is allowed is not stated.
  • DayTraders.com: Only automated high-frequency trading is explicitly banned on all accounts; the HFT article also tells traders to ensure trades are 'conducted manually'. The Terms prohibit software, AI, HFT or other programs that manipulate or abuse the simulated environment, and ban VPN or VPS use on accounts. No explicit permission for non-HFT bots or trade automation was found.

The conditions that keep coming up

Your own strategy, not a bought or shared one

Firms that allow automation mostly allow your automation. Bulenox permits only user-built tools for personal use, with no commercial, shared, or rented automation. TradeDay forbids bots bought from third parties and several users running the same bot. Tradeify requires you to be the sole owner and may ask for proof, such as a live video of you enabling the code on your own PC. Funded Futures Network allows your own strategy on your own accounts and prohibits automation controlled by a third party, and MyFundedFutures wants strategies "tailored to their own specific settings."

No high-frequency trading, and sometimes a minimum hold

Of the firms that allow automation, all but Bulenox (whose published FAQ and help center don't address it) ban high-frequency trading, and several put a number on it:

  • Funded Futures Network fails the account if more than 30% of a session's trades round-trip in 5 seconds or less, manual or automated, with no appeal.
  • FundedNext Futures warns when profitable trades closed within 10 seconds make up 30% of a cycle's profit, and calls 40% a violation.
  • Lucid Trading flags microscalping when more than 50% of profit comes from trades of 5 seconds or less.
  • Tradeify's funded payouts need more than 50% of trades and of profit from trades held longer than 10 seconds.
  • TradeDay prohibits more than 200 trades a day, or trades lasting a few seconds for a couple of ticks.

Worked example

RuleYour numbersResult
Funded Futures Network: over 30% of trades at 5 seconds or less6 of 20 trades = 30%Passes (not over 30%)
Funded Futures Network: same rule7 of 20 trades = 35%Account fails
FundedNext Futures: profit from trades under 10 seconds$600 of $2,000 = 30%Warning
FundedNext Futures: same rule$800 of $2,000 = 40%Violation, rewards blocked

A bot's own stop can create a fast trade. An entry stopped out 3 seconds later counts toward Funded Futures Network's test like any scalp. Hypothetical round numbers.

Semi-automation where full automation is banned

Alpha Futures puts it bluntly: "The use of AI, bots, and other automated trading mechanisms is strictly prohibited across all account types." It still allows an indicator to give signals, as long as you place, monitor, and manage each trade yourself. Phidias Propfirm allows semi-automated software only if you actively monitor and manually adjust every trade. An alert that places the order for you is automation under both. Take Profit Trader bans automated execution but allows execution and trade-management tools, and Elite Trader Funding's only authorized automated tools are its approved trade copiers.

Evaluation versus funded

Most firms apply one rule to every stage, but the exceptions matter. At Topstep, "Custom automated strategies and bots are allowed via the TopstepX / ProjectX API", but that API isn't available on the Live Funded Account, so automation stops at call-up. Tradeify allows bots in evaluation and funded, adds the 10-second hold rule to funded payouts, and says the Tradovate API is only available on live funded accounts, so check with Tradeify before connecting an API-based tool to an evaluation. MyFundedFutures requires live accounts that use automation to follow CME guidelines. Apex Trader Funding publishes no evaluation versus funded distinction for its ban.

One bot, one firm

Tradeify forbids running your bot at other prop firms. Most firms say nothing about it either way. If you run the same strategy at two firms, read both rulebooks, and keep in mind that identical trades across unrelated accounts are how several firms spot copy networks. The trade copier guide covers those rules.

VPS and where orders come from

Bots often run on a VPS so they stay up while your computer is off. Check the firm first. Topstep requires all order flow to originate from your personal device and prohibits VPS, VPN, and remote servers. TradeDay prohibits VPN, VPS, and IP masking, and DayTraders.com's Terms ban VPN and VPS use on accounts. Apex Trader Funding prohibits cloud servers and other tools used to disguise identity or location. At the other end, Funded Futures Network permits solo VPS use and Alpha Futures allows a VPS (though not automation). The same question applies to cloud services that place orders through a broker API for you: if a firm cares where orders originate, ask whether that counts.

TradingView alerts, where automation is allowed

The common setup is a TradingView strategy or indicator whose alerts place the orders. An alert can't place an order by itself, so a webhook service turns it into one. CrossTrade (from our publisher) is one: the alert posts to your personal webhook, and CrossTrade places the order on NinjaTrader 8 through its XT Add-On (NinjaTrader open and connected) or on Tradovate from its cloud. Before the first live alert, set the guardrails: trading windows that refuse signals outside your hours, a max-positions limit, and the kill switch, which blocks every incoming signal (it doesn't stop trades you place by hand).

Among the firms we track, that setup is only worth asking about at MyFundedFutures, Tradeify, Lucid Trading, TradeDay, FundedNext Futures, Funded Futures Network, and FTMO Futures; check each firm's current rules first. At TradeDay, which gives no API access and forbids bots bought from third parties, confirm the setup with the firm first. It doesn't apply at Apex Trader Funding, Take Profit Trader, Alpha Futures, Elite Trader Funding, Top One Futures, Funded Futures Family, and Phidias Propfirm (automation prohibited), at Topstep and DayTraders.com (no NinjaTrader or Tradovate connection; Topstep's automation goes through the TopstepX API), at Bulenox (user-built, personal-use tools only), or at Earn2Trade until the firm confirms its policy in writing. The full walkthrough is in automating TradingView alerts on a prop account, and platform support by firm is in choosing a prop firm platform.

Questions traders ask

Can I use a trading bot on a prop firm evaluation?
At 9 of the 18 firms we track, yes, with conditions: usually your own strategy, no high-frequency trading, and a supported platform. Apex Trader Funding, Take Profit Trader, Alpha Futures, Elite Trader Funding, Top One Futures, Funded Futures Family, and Phidias Propfirm prohibit it, and Earn2Trade and DayTraders.com don't state a clear policy.
Does a TradingView alert that places orders count as automated trading?
Yes. If the order goes in without you placing it, firms treat it as automation. Alpha Futures and Phidias Propfirm allow only semi-automation, where a signal prompts you and you place and manage every trade yourself.
Can I run a bot I bought?
Usually not. Bulenox allows only user-built tools for personal use, TradeDay forbids bots bought from third parties, Tradeify requires you to be the bot's sole owner, and Funded Futures Network prohibits automation controlled by a third party.
Does the high-frequency rule apply if I trade by hand?
It can. Funded Futures Network applies its 5-second round-trip test to manual and automated trading alike, and the microscalping limits at Lucid Trading and FundedNext Futures are measured by trade duration, whichever way the order was placed.

Prop firm rules change often. Figures here were checked against each firm's own site on the date shown on its firm page; confirm the current terms with the firm before you buy. Nothing here is financial advice.
