Why a copier, and why this one

Five accounts means five entries, five stops, and five exits, placed fast enough that the fills still look alike. The account you miss is the one that breaks a rule. A copier places the trade once and handles the rest, but at a prop firm it has two extra jobs: each account has its own limits, and an account that has hit its daily loss has to stop trading, not get dragged back in by the next copied entry.

That's what the CrossTrade Trade Copier is built around. Each follower gets its own size, its own instruments, and a link to its own risk monitor, so a 50K account and a 150K account can follow the same leader without sharing a position size or a fate.

How it works

You choose a leader account and one or more followers. When the leader trades, the copier places the matching trade on each follower. Any account can be a leader, a follower, or both, and a copier group puts one leader, many followers, and one set of settings under a single name.

What gets copied

  • On NinjaTrader 8: Order Mode mirrors every order action on the leader (placements, stop moves, cancels), so each follower's order book matches. Execution Mode waits for a confirmed leader fill, then sends a market order to each follower.
  • On Tradovate: Signal Mode copies orders sent through CrossTrade (alerts, the API, or the dashboard) and keeps their limits and brackets. Execution Mode copies every leader fill as a market order, including trades you place by hand. Order Mode, which mirrors working orders, is in beta; CrossTrade says to verify it on Demo before using it on an evaluation or funded account.

Sizing each follower

  • Ratio or fixed quantity. A follower can trade 0.5x or 2x the leader, or a fixed number of contracts.
  • A position ceiling. Max position size caps a follower's total net position, and an entry that would breach it is trimmed or skipped.
  • Instrument swaps. Map the leader's ES to a follower's MES (or NQ to MNQ). The swap doesn't change the quantity, so set the ratio yourself: 10 micros per mini is the usual pairing.

Keeping followers in line

  • Tandem Mode ties copying to each follower's Account Manager monitor. If the monitor stops the account for a daily loss or a drawdown, copying to that account stops too, instead of re-entering the position the monitor just closed. For prop accounts, CrossTrade's own guide says it should almost always be on.
  • Auto-Sync on NinjaTrader 8 compares each follower's position with where it should be, every 10 seconds by default, and sends a correction when they differ after a missed fill or a disconnect. One catch: if you close a follower by hand while Auto-Sync is on, it re-enters.
  • Instrument filters limit a copier to the contracts you name; anything else is skipped and logged.

Setting it up for prop accounts

  1. Read the firm's copy rule first. Confirm the firm allows copying between your own accounts, how many can be linked, and whether it limits copiers to a named list. The copier rules guide has every firm's rule in one table.
  2. Connect the accounts. On NinjaTrader 8, install the XT Add-On and connect each firm account in NinjaTrader as usual. On Tradovate, link each firm login to CrossTrade through Link Demo.
  3. Pick the leader. Many traders lead from a sim or demo account so the leader carries no rules of its own, with the evaluation and funded accounts as followers.
  4. Size each follower to its own limits. Set the ratio from each account's drawdown and daily loss, not from the leader's size.
  5. Put a monitor on every follower and turn on Tandem Mode. Set each monitor inside that firm's limits so it fires first. The Account Manager page shows how to map a firm's rules to a monitor.
  6. Test on sim before any funded account. Place, modify, cancel, and flatten, and check every follower does the same. CrossTrade's pre-live checklist covers partial fills and disconnects too.
  7. Run one copier per set of accounts. Two copiers on the same accounts place every trade twice. If you're moving from another copier, switch it off before the CrossTrade copier goes live.

What it won't do

  • Copy between NinjaTrader 8 and Tradovate. They are two separate copiers.
  • Run on NinjaTrader with the platform closed. The NinjaTrader 8 copier needs NinjaTrader open and connected. The Tradovate copier runs in the cloud.
  • Promise cross-login copying on Tradovate. CrossTrade validates copying between accounts in the same environment under one login. Copying across different logins, such as two firms, is still being validated.
  • Guarantee identical fills. Followers get their own fills, and a fast market can fill them at different prices.
  • Decide whether your setup follows your firm's rules. CrossTrade says plainly that it doesn't determine that. Firms like Take Profit Trader and Elite Trader Funding only allow copiers on their own lists, and CrossTrade isn't on them.

Which firms' rules leave room for it

7 of the 18 firms we track publish rules that leave room for the Trade Copier. The rest either don't run on NinjaTrader 8 or Tradovate, or their fine print excludes it. This reads each firm's own policy; it isn't the firm's endorsement of CrossTrade, so open the firm page for the wording before you connect anything.

Questions traders ask

Is the CrossTrade Trade Copier allowed at my prop firm?
That's the firm's call, not ours. 16 of the 18 firms we track allow copying in some form, usually only between accounts you own. Take Profit Trader and Elite Trader Funding only allow copiers on their own named lists, and CrossTrade isn't on them. The table above reads each firm's rule, and each firm page quotes it with a source.
Can it copy from NinjaTrader to Tradovate?
No. There are two separate copiers. The NinjaTrader 8 copier copies between accounts connected in NinjaTrader, and the Tradovate copier copies between linked Tradovate accounts. Neither crosses to the other platform.
Does it copy my stop and target changes?
On NinjaTrader 8, Order Mode mirrors every order action, including stop moves and cancels, so each follower's orders match the leader's. Execution Mode waits for a leader fill and sends a market order instead. On Tradovate, Execution Mode gives followers no resting brackets of their own: they exit when the leader's exit fill is copied.
Can I copy trades to accounts at two different firms?
Only if both firms allow it. FundedNext Futures explicitly allows copying your own trades to other firms as long as every account is in your exact name; most firms say nothing. On Tradovate, copying between two different logins (for example accounts at two firms) is still being validated by CrossTrade, so test it on Demo and don't rely on it yet.
Can I use it to copy another trader, or let someone copy me?
No. Every firm we track that addresses it bans copying another person's trades, and many check for it by matching trade times across accounts. Use the copier only between accounts you own.
Which CrossTrade plan includes the copier?
Pro and above. Every new CrossTrade account starts with a 7-day free trial, no credit card required.
